Professor and class,
I feel amazingly relaxed after that exercise. I have done relaxation techniques since I was a kid although as I've gotten older I haven't done them as often. This was a different technique than what I am used to though. I like the imagery and found it very effective, even with my kids interrupting to tell me goodnight. One of the reasons I use relaxation is when I am having trouble falling asleep and it seems to help me every time. I'm looking forward to further exercises!

Hi Marlyn,
ReplyDeleteI too enjoyed this wonderful exercise of relaxation; I was first introduced to the art of relaxation while practicing yoga. I say [art] because I use to fall asleep while relaxing; I thought that this was the whole point, boy was I wrong. After I was caught snoring in yoga class, I began to get better. I found, allowing the body and mind to truly relax is more difficult than it seems. Although, our class and the video take it a step further, by introducing the Power of Suggestion.

When I was young I thought the point was to help you fall asleep but it really isn't. I have used similar techniques though to help me fall asleep...keeps the mind from wandering to stressful stuff.

I really enjoyed this exercise as well. I have a lot of random thoughts running through my mind all the time and this exercise helped me clear my mind and really be able to focus much better.

DeleteThank you for your response. I think this blog should be fun. I tried to start a blog earlier this year but wsa not successful at keeping up with it and felt like I was just keeping a journal. It's great to meet you and I think any martial art is beneficial to us, our minds and our bodies but I may be biased on that.

Hi Marlyn,
ReplyDeleteI too enjoyed this relaxation exercise because I find it hard to relax sometimes due to being on the go 24/7 it seems like. I like how this exercise encompassed our imaginations! Yoga is also a useful relaxation exercise. I have never taken a Yoga class but I would love to try sometime soon. I think being able to allow our minds to relax helps reduce stress and keeps us focused on what is important in life. I look forward to the rest of this term and all the knowledge we will be gaining!

Marlyn, I am glad you enjoyed the exercise. I have done this before. Years ago, I worked for a psychiatrist who had a whole sideline of relaxation therapy set up. I did not particularly like this speaker. I found his voice choppy and this distracted me. Thanks, Sandy N.
ReplyDeleteHi Marlyn
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the exercise as well. I was surprised at how well the exercise worked I was a bit skeptical that it would work, I think that the more that you are able to do the exercise the faster and better you will get at being able to relax. I can't wait to see what else we do. Have a great week!

Ok, guys I really need some help. A whole exercise class could not reduce my frustration levels at this moment. I have never used a blog before and am having a really hard time posting anything anywere. Any suggestions. How about relaxation techniques?
ReplyDeleteMarlyn,
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you were really able to get something out of the Journey On Relaxation Exercise! I, unfortunately, didn't really benefit from it, as I found it to be distracting and not very effective. Everybody's different, of course! I typically respond better to meditation in silence or with ambient noise. Guided meditation has never been very effective for me!

Marlyn,
ReplyDeleteGreat posts and I do agree that thsi was a great relaxation technique. When I was doing the exercise though I fell asleep but I believe it was from being exhausted after watching 400 kids at the Boys & Girls Club. I like your blog and that is very cool that you are a black belt. I wish you the best in all you do and thank you for sharing the information that you have posted.
Hello Samantha,
